Make a Rawhide Rattle with Shaman, Adhi Two Owls
Rattle-Making with Adhi Moonien Two Owls
Saturdays, September 10 and 17, 2011 from 2 to 6pm, at Radiance in Lancaster
In this two-part workshop participants will learn how to make a rawhide rattle from beginning to end. This workshop is for those who want to develop deeper shamanic skills and knowledge.
The first day of the workshop will cover instruction on the parts of the rattle, the materials used to create the bulb, sewing and creating of your rawhide form. We will take several shamanic journeys to find guidance about our personal rattles. This first portion of the rattle needs to dry so. During the week between classes, you will find your handle and materials to put in it.
When we meet again for the second day of the workshop, we will work on the actual assemblage of these parts into a working rattle. During this section of the workshop we will dedicate the rattle for its purpose, fill it, and attach the handle.
Also covered in the workshop will be ways to work with your rattle and techniques for the care of your rattle.
All the materials will be provided except the handle and whatever you will put inside your rattle.
Bring to class: Your journal and a yoga mat and/or blanket to sit on
Class will be held at Radiance, 9 W Grant St, Lancaster, PA, across the cobblestones from Central Market. Stop in or phone 717-290-1517 to register. Cost is $85.00 in advance, $95 on the day of the class.

Steel Pony at Radiance
Isn't this linen tunic beautiful?
We've added a fabulous new line of clothing this summer at Radiance, and have been very excited with the enthusiastic responses we've received so far. Stop in to see the gorgeous range of pieces we have! This is truly wearable art. All pieces are hand-dyed and hand-made by the designer in Philadelphia, so they are also locally-made. A perfect match for us! Comfortable, elegant and timeless, too. I bought my first Steel Pony jacket more than ten years ago and am still wearing it often.
Radiance is located at 9 W Grant St in downtown Lancaster, PA. We are open Tuesday thru Saturday.

Birthstone for July? Ruby...
Born in July? Ruby is your birthstone. At Radiance we have a lovely collection of rough (uncut & unpolished) rubies. And, we'll be open late this evening for First Friday in downtown Lancaster.
From EarthSky:
The ruby, birthstone for July, is among the most highly prized of gemstones. Large rubies are harder to find than large diamonds, emeralds and sapphires. As a result, rubies’ value increases with size more than any other gemstone.
Along with its close relative, the sapphire, the ruby is a form of the mineral corundum, which is normally drab and grey in color. Red gemstone corundum is called ruby. All other gemstone corundum colors – orange, yellow, brown, green, blue, purple, violet, black, and colorless – are called sapphires.
The Mogok valley of Upper Burma is famous as the source for the finest and rarest rubies of all, know as “pigeon’s blood” for the stones’ intense red color. Another major source of rubies is Thailand, well-known for dark, brownish-red rubies. Both Thailand and Burma regard the ruby as their national stone.
In the Orient, rubies were once believed to contain the spark of life – “a deep drop of the heart’s blood of Mother Earth,” according to ancient Eastern legends.
