Tarot Readings with Beth

Using the imagery of the Tarot, Beth helps you explore the issues of your life, looking for synchronicities and seeking clarity for how to make strong choices for your future. Rather than looking at the Tarot as deterministic of a future set in stone, Beth sees the images as pointing to patterns that can be changed and rewoven. Unpacking the meaning of a reading helps you to focus on the potential choices that you can make to change unhelpful patterns of behaving and thinking or to affirm positive patterns.

Beth has been studying and practicing various forms of divination for the past fifteen years, from Tarot to Runes, and African Bones to the I Ching. She enjoys using divination as a tool for personal transformation and spiritual development, and as a way to become attuned to the cycles of the natural world. Along with Sarah, she teaches occasional courses in the Reclaiming Tradition: The Elements of Magic and Rites of Passage.

The cost for a 50-minute reading is $45. Call 717-290-1517 to schedule an appointment.

The Dance of Fertility

The Dance of Fertility:
Reconnecting With Our Cycles

Like the earth itself, a woman's body passes through cycles of fertility and infertility. Sometimes our bodies are moist, cool and fertile and sometimes our bodies are dry, hot and infertile. Each month, our bodies give us signals to let us know where we are in the cycle. We can keep track of the signals and use the knowledge to prevent or achieve pregnancy or gauge overall health.

Join us for this 3-part class as we learn to listen to our bodies using the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). We will explore what happens during a menstrual cycle, learn to chart our own cycle, and use those charts to achieve or prevent pregnancy and to gauge overall health. We will discuss herbs and other natural remedies to support our reproductive health.

Classes will be held Thursdays, October 7, 14 & 21, 6:30 -8:30pm at Radiance, 9 W Grant St, Lancaster, PA. Call 717-290-1517 or stop in to register in advance. Cost for the class is on a sliding scale: $80 to $60.

Natasha Herr is co-owner of Homegrown Edible Landscaping Co. She studies with certified fertility educator Katie Singer, author of Garden of Fertility and has used FAM successfully for the last 3 years to prevent pregnancy. She is in love with the magic of fertility and is passionate about teaching others to reconnect with their bodies.
Sarah Preston Campbell is a community herbalist, owner of Herbs From the Labyrinth, LLC and co-owner of Radiance in downtown Lancaster. She is passionate about women’s health, and sees myriad reflections between the health of our own bodies and the health of the Earth body.

Please note: FAM is not the Rhythm method. The rhythm method relies on estimating fertile time based on the assumption that most women ovulate around 14 days before their period. While this may be true for some women, stress, diet and other factors can delay ovulation in any given month, rendering the rhythm method inaccurate. In contrast, FAM relies on the daily observance of fertility signals in order to pinpoint exactly where a woman is in her cycle. There is no guesswork involved- only the facts!

Rattle-making with Adhi Moonien Two Owls

Saturdays, September 11 and 18, 2010 from 2 to 6pm, at Radiance in Lancaster

In this two part workshop participants will learn how to make a rawhide rattle from beginning to end. This workshop is for those who want to develop deeper shamanic skills and knowledge.

The first day of the workshop will cover instruction on the parts of the rattle, the materials used to create the bulb, sewing and creating of your rawhide form. We will take several shamanic journeys to find guidance about our personal rattles. This first portion of the rattle needs to dry so. During that time you will find your handle and materials to put in it.

When we meet again for the second day of the workshop, we will work on the actual assemblage of these parts into a working rattle. During this section of the workshop we will dedicate the rattle for its purpose, fill it, and attach the handle.

Also covered in the workshop will be ways to work with your rattle and techniques for the care of your rattle.

All the materials will be provided except the handle and whatever you will put inside your rattle. You may want to bring a journal to class.

Constructed from recycled materials, the rocket stove is an affordable and sustainable cook-stove design that is so simple anyone can learn to build it. Makes a great camp or outdoor kitchen stove.

Threads of Connection, Strands of the Web

An Exhibit at Radiance
9 W Grant St., Lancaster, PA
March 15 through May 30, 2010
Artist Reception on Friday, April 2, 5-8pm

Born of the deep desire to celebrate our connection with the natural world, Sylvan Thorncraft looks for the magical spark that resides in all things to inspire her fabric collage work. The spirits of the forest, the divas of the flowers, the dancing clouds slowly emerge from luminous layers of silk and gauze. A large portion of these pieces are created with cast off women's blouses, in the spirit of honoring women's intimate connection with fabric and the making of thread, cloth and clothing through time. Fabric invites us in, it touches our skin, protects us, lives with us. In many cases, Thorncraft's work is as much inspired by finding "the perfect" bit of cloth for a piece as it is by the desire to express a specific vision. Their creation is organic and fluid, arranging a layer then looking for what that layer is calling for next, working to bring the individual parts into relationship, into the community that is the finished piece.

Sylvan Thorncraft lives and works in the eastern Catskill Mountains of New York. Having been engaged with the creative process all of her life, she celebrates how sewing connects her to her female ancestors, both known and unknown. Student of nature and the ancient traditions of the people who knew her so intimately, she hopes to tap into the deep sea of our collective wisdom for the images she creates. Just like other instruments, these drums have notes that are combined to play music. We will work on the sounds of the notes and will play music that you can play alone or with other drummers. Whether you are a beginner drummer or an experienced one, join us to discover or improve your own sound on the drum, and to create music in community with others.

Classes led by Tammi Hessen, a Lancaster-based drummer who has been studying in the West African hand drum tradition of djembe. Tarot Readings with Beth at Radiance!

Call us at 717-290-1517 to schedule an appointment.

Currently appointments are available on Saturdays, January 30, February 13 and March 6. Soon Wednesday appointments will be available, as well.

Making a Shaman's Rattle

Saturdays, January 16 & 23, 2010 from 2 to 6pm, at Radiance in Lancaster

Class will be held at Radiance, 9 W Grant St, Lancaster, PA, across the cobblestones from Central Market. Stop in or phone 717-290-1517 to register. Cost is $85.00 in advance.
