Lunar Yoga for the Imbolc Season with Sarah Yukie Gingrich

Lunar Yoga for the  Imbolc Season
With Sarah Yukie Gingrich
Thursdays, 1/30/14 thru 2/27/14, 6-7pm

In the summer we are nourished by the yang or masculine Sun’s radiance and heat. In the fertile darkness of February, the midpoint of the Winter solstice and the Spring equinox, we must call on the restorative power of the yin or feminine moon. In the festivals of this month the Romans honored Juno, the goddess who represented breastfeeding and childbirth while t he Celts celebrate Imbolc or Oimilk. Imbolc means womb and oimilk refers to the milk of the sheep. In the bitter cold of February, the milk of the sheep meant life-giving sustenance. The festival was celebrated with candles honoring the coming of the light of incipient Spring.

Just as farmers plant their seeds during the new moon, we will meet for a full cycle, from new moon to new moon to celebrate and cultivate our ability to nourish and sustain from within.

Join Sarah Gingrich for this inspiring, nourishing yoga. We will share a grounding, connecting, lunar vinyasa with elements of meditation, chanting, sharing, and journaling. Bring your yoga mat, a journal and pen. To honor the spirit of inner generation in the darkness, room is not overly warm, wear layered comfortable clothes for movement.

Classes will be held at Radiance, 9 W Grant St., Lancaster, PA, across the cobblestones from historic Central Market.  To register, call Radiance at 717-290-1517, or stop in.  Cost for the 5-class series is $50, or $15 drop-in fee.

Sarah Yukie Gingrich found the breath and flow of yoga as a young child and continues to create that same playful, open spirit into her teaching and practice. A teacher of teachers, she brings the lineage and discipline of Bikram, the power and clarity of Baptiste, and the fluid, creative inspiration of Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow into her instruction.

Elder: Magic, Myth and Medicine

  Elder: Magic, Myth & Medicine
With community herbalist, Sarah Preston
Saturday, January 18, 2014, 1-3:30pm

Elder (Sambuccus nigra or canadensis) has long held a place of importance in herbal traditions of both North America and western Europe.

In this class, we will look at contemporary and historical uses of Elder, and explore some of the mythology surrounding it. Elder is a wonderful remedy for colds and flu, as well as a daily tonic to prevent those viruses from invading our homes. We will discuss the history and healthful properties of Elder, and we will make a batch of Elderberry syrup together. You will go home with a small bottle of Elderberry syrup and recipe ideas, and the confidence to make syrup yourself!

Cost for this class is $30.

Class will be held in the classroom at Radiance.  To register call Radiance, 290-1517, or stop by the shop at 9 W Grant St, in downtown Lancaster, right across the cobblestones from Central Market.

Sarah Preston is a community herbalist in Lancaster, PA, and is owner of Herbs from the Labyrinth, LLC.  She says, “Being an herbalist is a natural extension of my life-long love of plants, trees and wild places, and my interest in natural healing, which was instilled in me by my mother.  I see herbalism as a lifelong learning process.  My spirituality deeply informs my work with herbs, just as my work with herbs informs my spirituality.   I see the Earth as the living body of the Goddess, and all living beings as parts of her body.

Tarot Tuesdays! Starting in December!

Tarot Tuesdays
at Radiance
by Beth
of BrightWing Tarot

In the fairy tales, a child wanders in a forest, sometimes full of wonder, following a bright trail of flowers or butterflies; sometimes lost and frightened in the tangles and the darkness.   Using the imagery of the tarot for signposts, along her own intuition, Beth will help you to look at the pathways of your own journey through the forest of your life, whether you feel like you're on a bright trail or caught in a bog. She will help you harness your own intuition, to gain a wider perspective, to seek your guides, to look for crumbs and shiny stones that might show you which direction leads you to your true center.

In a consultation, you be reminded of synchronicities in your life, those magical coincidences that the Universe seems to create just to wake you up. You will look for messages from animal totems, spirit guides, angels, ancestors, and Goddess or God. You will keep open to dreams and omens and messages and what your own body tells you about who you are.

The goal of a consultation is not to know what the future holds, but to place yourself at the center of your story, following your destiny rather than being a victim of fate. To make empowered decisions. To align yourself with your true purpose. To tap into your knowledge of your Deep Self. To wake up into your story and to engage with it.

Come in for a check-in, or bring a question or personal muddle. Or schedule an apprenticeship hour and Beth will give you a lesson in reading the tarot.  A reading will not tell you what to do or who to be. It can only point the way, offer comfort and guidance, images to grasp like lanterns in the darkness.  Tarot work is spirit play. Tarot consultations are not an alternative to therapy or medical intervention in mental health issues. This is not meant to replace the work that you may do with a certified professional.

Beth has been studying and practicing tarot for the past seventeen years.  She enjoys using divination as a tool for personal transformation and spiritual development, and as a way to become attuned to the cycles of the natural world.  Along with Sarah, she also teaches occasional courses in the Reclaiming Tradition: The Elements of Magic and Rites of Passage.

The cost for a 45-50-minute consultation is priced on a sliding scale of $55 - $45.  A 15-20-minute consultation is $25 - $20.  Call 717-290-1517 to schedule an appointment.

Tuesday Tarot Consultations (and a few Saturdays) will be held at Radiance through the fall and winter.

Beth is Back! Tarot Readings at Radiance!

Tarot Readings by Beth at Radiance

Using the imagery of the Tarot, Beth helps you explore the issues of your life, looking for synchronicities and seeking clarity for how to make strong choices for your future.  Rather than looking at the Tarot as deterministic of a future set in stone, Beth sees the images as pointing to patterns that can be changed and rewoven.  Unpacking the meaning of a reading helps you to focus on the potential choices that you can make to change unhelpful patterns of behaving and thinking or to affirm positive patterns.

Beth has been studying and practicing various forms of divination for the past sixteen years, from Tarot to Runes, and African Bones to the I Ching.  She enjoys using divination as a tool for personal transformation and spiritual development, and as a way to become attuned to the cycles of the natural world.  Along with Sarah, she also teaches occasional courses in the Reclaiming Tradition: The Elements of Magic and Rites of Passage.

The cost for a 45-50-minute reading is priced on a sliding scale of $55 - $45.  Call 717-290-1517 to schedule an appointment.

Readings will be held at Radiance through the fall and winter – watch for the full schedule to be announced soon!

Dynamics of Transformation Through the Element of Fire

Dynamics of Transformation
Through the Element of Fire

A retreat with shaman, Adhi Two Owls

Friday, November 1 at 3:30pm thru Sunday, November 3 at 2pm

During this weekend retreat, we will explore many aspects of Fire. In shamanism, the element of Fire is seen as the doorway to transforming the self from ideas and thoughts (Air) into the living, breathing, compassionate spirit and the embodied elements of Water and Earth.  Fire tests us and forges us into being.

Learn how to visualize and use the energies of Fire to burn through unwanted thoughts and patterns, which can keep us from fully expressing our journeys here on earth.

Adhi will draw on several different traditions and techniques from her myriad of teachers. Learn different types of fire construction, and methods of burning offerings and prayers. Bring tobacco, corn meal, scissors, pocket knife, your journal, and photographs of people you want to help in some way.

On Friday evening, we will light the fire, which we will tend together throughout the weekend. On Saturday evening, we will have a Healing Fire Circle.  Throughout the weekend, we will experience numerous shamanic journeys to further the work we will be doing.

Cost for the weekend is $275 before September 30, $325 after, includes housing and most meals. This is a beautiful camp, near Reading PA, with comfortable, spacious cabins. Heated if needed. And hot showers... For more information, contact Sarah at Radiance 717-290-1517

Adhi is a traditionally-trained shaman and has been studying the rattle as a tool for transformation for almost 20 years.  She draws from many different teachers and their wisdom.  Adhi is an accomplished artist, energy worker, Radiesthesiologist (vibrational dowser), and researcher. Her primary area of study is sacred objects, ritual items, magical tools and the temple sciences that guide them. She has spent that last 2 decades understanding deeper patterns and energies that make them work. Adhi's formal training is from the Kansas City Art Institute. Other training is in Bio-geometry, Reiki, Shamanism, Buddhism, and advanced energy sciences. Adhi travels and teaches all over the world.

The Flame in Every Hand - Schedule Adjustment

 THE FLAME IN EVERY HAND:
WRITING AS A CONTEMPLATIVE ACT
with Poet / Songwriter / Storyteller John Terlazzo

From where does Inspiration arise? A conscious moving inward, consciously breathing in spires, in spiritus - beyond all dogma & concepts. There is a way to approach creative writing as a meditation, as a vehicle by which we begin to get flashes of what it means to be walking in this skin, in this world, in the spires of this moment. Inspiration will not show her face coyly, nonchalantly. We must actively seek her out.

"John Terlazzo is a Natural Teacher, using his interior work to bring the spirit, fine knowledge & encouragement to all who attend his retreats".
                          - Gioia Timpanelli, World-renown Storyteller, Novelist & Long-time Colleague of Robert                                    Bly & the late Joseph Campbell

We’ll do contemplative writing experiments together, working with symbols, images & archetypes deep within ourselves & deep within folktales & stories from all over the world. And we'll sing, rant, meditate, chant, work with sound & silence, talk, laugh & step easily off the edge into what we do not know. There will be ample opportunity for folks to read their work aloud (or simply listen as they like), whisper, wonder & wail.  The program is OPEN TO BOTH EXPERIENCED & FIRST-TIME WRITERS ALIKE & is uniquely designed to accommodate both in an atmosphere that is simultaneously safe & welcoming on one hand, & energetically stimulating & challenging on the other.

This class will meet once each week from September 3 through October 24, mostly on Tuesday evenings, from 6-8pm.  Dates are 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/25, 10/8, 15 and 10/24.
All classes will be held at Radiance, 9 W Grant St., Lancaster, PA.  To register, stop in or phone 717-290-1517.
Cost is on a sliding scale from $135 to $85.  Our hope is that those who can pay at the higher end of the scale will do so, thereby enabling others to be able to take the class.

About the facilitator: John Terlazzo is a poet, painter, singer/songwriter & storyteller who performs & records with his band, Voices in the Hall. John has led The Flame In Every Hand (originally titled, The Secret Tells Its Self) for over 20 years with people of all ages & in all walks of life - the general public, with psycho-therapists & others in the helping professions, with school kids & home-schooled kids of varying ages, with adjudicated youth & with those suffering from mental illnesses, in hospitals & wellness centers &  (for 5 years) at the Women's Resource Center at The Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
