To this holy temple, where
Your lovely apple grove stands,
And your altars that flicker
With incense.

Herbal Meads & Fermentations

Meads and Beers:
Herbal Fermentations
A workshop at Herbs from the Labyrinth
with local home-brewer,
Benjamin Weiss.
Saturday, January 19th, 1-5PM

Only within the last few centuries did hops become the main herbal ingredient in beer. From very ancient times until nearly the present, cultures around the world have been making fermented beverages with an incredible variety of herbs, fruits, sugar sources and other ingredients. Fermented beverages can serve as much more than just an enjoyment. These drinks can preserve the nutritional and medicinal properties of their ingredients for up to several years, and can play a key role in ritual and spiritual practice.

Benjamin Weiss, a local organic farmer, permaculture teacher, and poet has been experimenting with herbal fermentations for the past 7 years. Inspired by Stephen Buhner’s book Sacred & Herbal Healing Beers, Ben has learned to craft medicinal fermentations of many kinds using mostly local, organic, and wild ingredients.

This class will be useful for those who have little or no experience with brewing, and as a source of new knowledge for experienced brewers. Students will participate in the creation of an herbal beer as well as a mead (honey wine), and will see fermentations in all of the different stages of the brewing process. Basic techniques and equipment will be explained, as well as medicinal, nutritive, and ritual functions of brews, choosing, harvesting and obtaining ingredients, and pairing appropriate flavors. And an array of Ben’s finished beverages will be available for sampling!

This class will be held in the Herbs from the Labyrinth kitchen, at 1053 Wheatland Avenue in Lancaster.  Buhner’s book and herbal mead-making kits will be available for purchase during the class.

To register, call Radiance, 717-290-1517, or stop in to 9 W Grant St, Lancaster.

Cost of the class:  $40

Working with the Four Agreements

Working with
THE FOUR AGREEMENTS
with Jaque Hanson

The treasured teachings of Don Miguel Ruiz have been on the New York Times best seller list for many years.  We'll be exploring and revealing some of the sources of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. The Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.

The First Agreement:  “Be impeccable with Your Word”
The Second Agreement:  “Don’t Take Anything Personally”
The Third Agreement:  “Don’t Make Assumptions”
The Fourth Agreement: “Always Do Your Best”

Are you ready to be in the driver's seat of your life? We'll meet for this workshop in a safe and non-judgmental container. Imagine living a whole new way of life, free to be who you really are. Live your life free from worry about what others think of you. Live without judging yourself and others. Respect yourself and everyone else and they will respect you in return. Live without fear of expressing yourself.  Live free of conflict with yourself and others. Take the risk to explore life, and live without guilt, fear, shame, and regret. Imagine loving yourself just the way you are! Bring a bagged lunch & snacks, water, cushion to sit on, and dress in comfortable layers.

Join Jaque for this day of exploration.  In the morning, we will work with each of the Agreements, and in the afternoon Jaque will facilitate a powerful shamanic healing circle to address the lessons revealed to each participant.

Class will be held at Radiance, 9 W Grant St, Lancaster, PA, across the cobblestones from historic Central Market

"A woman is deep and has both a direct and indirect nature, both light and shadow, like the moon. Her power comes from both the light and shadow, if she learns how to process these two areas and flow with herself. With self-love and self-respect, both shadow and light create the alchemy of real creativity...
Know yourself as a woman.
Respect yourself as a woman.
Love yourself as a woman.
Your reality will then become your grace and power."

Shiva Nata: Meditation for People Who Can't Get Still

Shiva Nata
Meditation for People Who Can't Get Still
Saturday, December 1, 2012, 1-3pm

Want all the benefits of meditation? Have trouble stilling your body? Or quieting your mind?

Shiva Nata is a moving meditation practice that uses simple, gentle spirals of the arms and legs to quickly and efficiently deliver a delicious state of flow. It only takes 5 minutes a day to improve your mood, gain greater mental clarity and focus, spark creative new ideas, all while strengthening your arms, shoulders, and back - which is so important in this era of keyboards.

This two-hour introductory workshop will provide a solid foundation in the basic principles and practice of Dance of Shiva. Participants will learn enough to start a daily practice and soon be reaping the benefits of happy newborn brain cells. It's perfect for writers, artists, dancers, yoga practitioners, athletic coaches, life coaches - or anyone who wants juicy insights and laser focus.

The practice is easily adapted for those with limited physical abilities or chronic illnesses - as it can be done with little to no movement. Everyone is welcome - no yoga or meditation experience necessary!

This workshop is hosted by Radiance, an inspiring space in downtown Lancaster.

Cost is $25. To register, call Radiance at 717-290-1517 or stop in to 9 West Grant Street in downtown Lancaster. To continue this fascinating practice at home, pre-order Andrey Lappa's Dance of Shiva DVD - and Radiance will have it waiting for you after the workshop. This exquisite production from Pranamaya includes over four hours of practice and theory - years' worth of Shiva Nata training, from the master himself.

Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970s, Kalyani Glass was immersed in a culture of spiritual and health consciousness. Among the many influences on her upbringing, one of the most prominent was Hinduism. After many years as a witch and student of homeopathy, Shiva Nata has been like coming home. Practicing with the DVD at home since March 2010, it has provided her with improved focus, stronger shoulders, and a renewed zest for life. In January 2012, she studied with Andrey Lappa and he certified her as a Level 1 Dance of Shiva Teacher.
